Swing - Lindy Hop
The Lindy Hop is an American dance that evolved in Harlem, New York City, in the 1920s and 1930s and originally evolved with the jazz music of that time. It was very popular during the Swing era of the late 1930s and early 1940s. Lindy was a fusion of many dances that preceded it or were popular during its development but is mainly based on jazz, tap, breakaway and Charleston. It is frequently described as a jazz dance and is a member of the swing dance family.
First made popular in the 1940s during World War II when American GIs stationed in the UK, Swing dance is enjoying a thriving revival today. Swing - Lindy Hop can be full of kicks and expressive body movements but, ultimately, it’s all about the way you and your partner feel, improvise and swing to the music with style and panache.

Rock 'n' Roll - Modern Jive
Rock and roll (often written as rock & roll or rock 'n' roll) is a genre of popular music that originated and evolved in the United States during the late 1940s and early 1950s, primarily from a combination of predominantly African-American genres such as blues, boogie woogie, jump blues, jazz, and gospel music, together with Western swing and country music. Though elements of rock and roll can be heard in blues records from the 1920s and in country records of the 1930s, the genre did not acquire its name until the 1950s.
Rock ‘n’ Roll dancing itself may have started off as an unsuccessful renaming of Swing - Lindy Hop following the sensation of the film 'Rock around the Clock' in 1956, it had since evolved with the music of the 1950s and beyond to emerge as Jive (or French Jive) – a style derived from other dance styles including Lindy Hop, Rock 'n' Roll and Swing.
